On Monday, September 19th, SigEp paired with Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Zeta in organizing an event to raise awareness on the prevention of hazing. Lianne shared her moving story of her son, Harrison, who lost his life at the age of 19 due to a hazing ritual for Theta Chi pledges at Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2008. Over 200 FSL members had the chance to hear the dangers of hazing and now have an opportunity to put an end to it. Not only did Lianne speak of her son, but she urged the crowd to be leaders within Greek life and to take action if ever a witness to something like senseless hazing.
Special thanks to Lianne Kowiak for coming to speak at Missouri State University to all of these students. An impact was made, a message was received, and there are students out there putting those strategies into action to end hazing. A big thanks to brother Grant Toby, as well, for reaching out to Mrs. Kowiak and organizing this event.
