The “Sig Eps To Vets” group found themselves in Mount Vernon, Missouri on Wednesday evening, October 2, 2019 to sponsor BINGO with some of our proud military Veterans there.
Six current Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity members from Missouri State University made the 25 mile trip to the Veterans Home in Mount Vernon to mingle with some of their residents. Each visit finds the fraternity offering up $100 and their time to provide some much enjoyed entertainment. Since 2017, the young men have normally committed 5-6 visits there throughout the school year. This interaction is a genuine display of service to the surrounding community, which focuses on giving back in small ways to simply say thanks to our Veterans.
Led by BINGO caller junior Brendan Schrage from Highland, Illinois, Missouri sophomores Cody Atkins, (Florissant) Zach Naeger (Chesterfield), and freshmen Connor Bolch (Weston), Clayton Klein (Columbia) and Sam Meyer (New Melle) rounded out the spirited team.
Local staff members Alyss Haley and Hannah Argyris ensured that the overall activities had proper oversight and support for the Veterans with regard to their residential needs while also making the young college students feel welcome.
“Sig Eps To Vets” is a three-pillared program started in the fall of 2017 designed to recognize local area Vets such as those at the Mt Vernon home, interact with the MSU Veteran Students Center and honor the fraternity’s some 100 members who have served in all branches of the military over the years.
