We did it brothers. The boys of MoEta successfully made it through another semester. It was chalk full of trials and tribulations, highs and lows, but we made it nonetheless with more ebbs than flows. Excuse the rhyme. Before we get started I would like to apologize. In my January newsletter I told you all that I would be making monthly newsletters and I didn’t follow through. Our exec board decided that it would be better to summarize semesters as a whole and utilizing our new and improved website to share them with you all! While you’re here feel free to look around. It’s a work in progress but it’s coming along swimmingly and I expect it to be wrapped up before the summer ends.
On May 31st the head of Fraternity and Sorority Life released the rankings of all fraternities and sororities at Missouri State. Our placement in each category is listed below
Chapter GPA – 3rd overall with an average GPA of 3.18. Having improved from last semester’s average of 3.11, we’re thrilled with our progress but will still be working towards that number one spot.
Manpower – 1st with 128 brothers
Community Service Hours – 1st with 2,200.5 hours total
Community Service Hours Per Member – A very close 2nd with 17.19 per member
Philanthropy – 5th with a total of $800 raised. While 5th isn’t where we would like to be, after shattering the previous MSU philanthropic record (held by none other than us) by around $40,000 last semester we directed our efforts towards the summer and fall in hopes that we could break that record again We hope to raise approximately $100,000 from Angels in the Outfield (8/2-8/3) and the Italian Open golf tournament on August 5th alone. On top of other philanthropic events that we will be having in the fall we could see more than $110,000 raised. A number that rivals, if not tops, other Sig Ep chapter’s at larger universities across the nation.
4.0 GPA – 1st with 11, nearly doubling the amount by the second place holder, Pi Kappa Alpha.
Number of Educational Programs – 1st with 18. Our exec board is proud of this number. Worthwhile educational events are hard to come by and we managed to bring in deans, professors, military personnel, health professionals, businessmen and women, and leaders around the Springfield community to come give their advice and tell their stories to the young men of our chapter. We hope not only to meet, but exceed this number next semester.
The past exec board laid a fantastic groundwork and our current board has capitalized on that in spades. We are staying hungry however for we have learned that satisfaction is the enemy of success. Our goal isn’t for SigEp to stay on top. The mission to put us into the stratosphere with our eyes set on winning both the Buch Cup and Missouri State’s Chapter of the Year next year.
