Greetings Brothers,
It seems that Fall is finally upon us! This past weekend we celebrated Homecoming Week here at Missouri State. While the weather was far from ideal, we still managed to have a good time and came within inches of placing in Homecoming itself.
Throughout the week the leaderboard was a game of musical chairs. Different sororities and fraternities swapped places daily, with SigEp (and our Homecoming Partners Delta Zeta and Delta Chi) hanging on to a consistent third for most of the week. We were far more prepared than most other Greek organizations and got easy points in the first few days, giving us an early lead. We fumbled the ball in some subsequent competitions but anchored ourselves with a second place finish in Yell Like Hell. Yell Like Hell is more or less a dance competition where fraternities and sororities compete against one another. Instead of going into more detail, I’ll let you use your imagination. All I’m going to say is one of our brothers did the splits.
From there the week was smooth sailing and we could practically taste third place or higher…until tragedy struck. Our float (pictured above) was beautiful, a marvel of modern architecture, and it was on wheels nonetheless! The Homecoming judges didn’t seem all that impressed however and they eventually voted us out of third place. This was heartbreaking but we aren’t going to stew on it. We did some amazing things this week and nearly placed. We built a heck of a float and at the end of the day the judges didn’t like it. The only thing we can do now is pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and move on.
On all other fronts SigEp is thriving. We have been able raise more money on the philanthropy front, currently totaling $130,000 raised for the SEMESTER. Even after a loss in the playoffs in football, we are still positioned to take home the gold in all around intramural performance for the semester. With the addition of some 365 recruitments, we are positioned to have 160 members which would make us the biggest fraternity on campus. We are also on track for getting 20 community service hours per member, which would give us 3200 total service hours and break a Missouri State record! It’s as great of a time to be a SigEp as it’s ever been.
